Everything Wrong With The Schools Bill

This is simply my interpretation of the terms of the school bill (as phrased by the government), and why they are a problem.

The measures in the Bill will:

"Support more schools to become part of a strong, multi-academy trust." and "Strengthen the regulatory framework for academy trusts, underpinned by powers to intervene where they are failing."  - Meaning: reducing the independence of schools by pressuring, bribing or coercing them to step under the thumb of the academy trust boards run by the obscenely wealthy. This measure would continue the accumulation of power for the few that began with the introduction of the Education Reform Act 1988. The way that global corporations feed corruption and greed by absorbing small businesses is mirrored by academy trusts when they swallow individual schools. Following on from seizing more schools into the academy trusts, those trusts then become ever more controlling. The Bill allows the government to dictate through the trusts, and to "intervene" if their line is not followed. In other words, total control.

The other huge issue with the Schools Bill is the attack on homeschooling. It is transparently a response to the recent increase in parents exercising their rights and removing their children from the government brainwashing bins that schools are turning into. The following measures clearly show their desperation for children to be under their control.

"Require schools to publish an attendance policy" - They are forcing children into school, with no regard for mental health issues or disabilities that may prevent them from full time attendance. This may also penalise children with physical health problems and/or family matters that reduce their attendance.

"Establish compulsory registers for children not in school, so that the system can identify those who are not receiving a suitable full-time education." and "Place a duty on local authorities to provide support to home-schooling families, so that no child falls through the cracks." - This wording heavily implies that home education is "unsuitable" or insufficient. More importantly, the government are awarding themselves the power to muscle into our own homes to interfere with the way children are being educated. What better way could they demonstrate how afraid they are of losing their ability to indoctrinate?

"Give Ofsted more powers to crack down on ‘unregistered schools’ operating illegally." - This is attacking the independent organisations that support homeschooling by allowing children to socialise, and giving them access to tutors who are more confident and experienced than parents may be.

Other terms of the Bill:

Give the Teaching Regulation Agency increased powers to investigate misconduct.

Introduce a direct National Funding Formula, so that every school is allocated funding on a fair and consistent basis, wherever it is in the country.
