Mamma Mia (Here We Go Again)

Monkeypox.

Here's what we know:

- it's a viral infection with a less than 1% mortality rate.

- it's in the same viral family as smallpox and cowpox

- it has been around and known about since 1958

Here's what we don't know:

How could it be popping up in so many countries simultaneously, if it's not a novel virus? An outbreak through Western Europe within this timeframe would be questionable. But we are expected to believe that it has either reached North America already, or coincidentally begun spreading there in parallel with Europe. This raises the question of whether the virus could have been released in each place deliberately. At this point it doesn't seem likely, but let's not rule out the possibility.

On the flip side of this, is there an outbreak at all? Personally I have yet to see a named person claiming to have it, I have only seen reports of case numbers from news outlets (who of course are famously reliable and would never report padded stats or misleading data). Plus, there are a few psychological advantages to choosing monkeypox for a hype. First and foremost is the "pox" - associated with the highly deadly and contagious smallpox. Second, "monkey" connotes the exotic or unusual, and that which we do not understand, we fear. It's possible that the so-called outbreak could yet be a mountain made out of a molehill. An anthill, even.

Either way, the spotlight is on the pox and the next moves from here could be significant ones. Support for the undemocratic WHO Treaty may be influenced by the increased health anxiety that will no doubt be stirred up by these stories. I could go on for pages about the ramifications of giving a completely unelected body the power to shut down entire countries, and how handing that level of power to a global organisation actively diminishes our independence and autonomy as a nation. But I'll move on.

Another effect is that smallpox vaccines are being bought - here are the share prices in the past week (in green) and past 6 months (in red) of the company that makes them, Bavarian Nordic. It seems rather convenient that they are able to swoop to the rescue just after their stock value was crashing. Those scientists are such heroes, aren't they?

Going a little further into the rabbit hole, let's suppose that the government now attempts to vaccinate the masses against smallpox (to protect against monkey pox). The smallpox vaccine has long been acknowledged to have some high-risk side effects. It isn't regularly distributed to the at-risk to protect them from other common poxes because "the risk of the vaccine's side effects is too high to justify routine vaccination". So, is it just a big pharma money-grab and they don't care? Do they actually want to weaken the population and increase reliance on pharmaceuticals?

Or rather more dramatically... could they be vaccinating the obedient for smallpox, to then release a wave of smallpox and cull the disobedient?

Forgive my cynicism. It seems ridiculous to even suggest some wicked plot. But after the last 2 years I personally would not put anything past them, and I am open to suggestions on resisting if this is the plan. The good news is, if we ignore the media fear mongering, we can reverse the narrative: monkeypox and smallpox are indeed related, so closely that smallpox vaccines are being bought for monkeypox. This means that catching the mostly harmless monkeypox should increase your resistance to smallpox :)

Monkeypox party time, let's catch it and get it over with!

P.S. For those of you that enjoy etymology, the word "vaccine" comes from Edward Jenner's original idea of inoculation against smallpox using cowpox. Cowpox is officially named vaccinia virus - vaca or vacca meaning "cow" in latin based languages!
